Not only are we reaching the point of peak production but CO2 emissions from oil based transport is a huge contributor to global warming. There are a number of cars which are very fuel efficient. We drive a diesel Smart. When driven economically it can deliver 80-85 mpg, and to be honest there are few cars that can touch this ultra low mileage. We applaud those manufacturers who have developed and are actually selling pure electric cars that can give us the mileage on a single charge and motorway speeds that we need. Now we're just having to try and save up for one! Within the last two years just about every major volume manufacturer has begun to strive for increased fuel efficiency. However it's clear that we need to wean ourselves from this dependency on fossil fuel for our main source of transportation.
