There are two bodies which oversee the grants that are available. The grants range from 10% to 50% of the installation costs. The grant we have received from the Energy Saving Trust was over £8000, just under 50% of the total cost! Our application was completed in 24 days and we had 6 months in which to install the PV panels. I guess it would be the same for other technologies. As of the 1st April 2006 the grant structure has changed somewhat. However you can't apply until the 24th April. The Energy Saving Trust and Clear Skies used to issue the grants. Now all the grants are issued by the EST through the Low Carbon Buildings Programme. The amounts of grants have stayed the same but there are a few energy saving prerequisites that the householder needs to ensure before the grant can be allocated. They are fairly basis things like fitting low energy light bulbs and getting the loft insulated In our view this all seems to makes sense if you haven't got these basic energy saving measures already you should be getting a grant for energy genearation anyway!
